Questions
Answers about meetings, fees and paperwork
If yours isn't here, call the office. Someone will either answer it or find out.
First visit
How do I set up a first meeting?
Call the office or send the short form on the contact page. The office manager will find a time with the right lawyer, usually within the week.
Can we meet by phone or video?
Yes. Many first meetings happen by phone. Signings for wills and deeds need you in person, with witnesses or a notary, and we can come to you.
What papers should I bring?
Any papers about the problem: letters, deeds, court papers, an old will. A list of names and dates helps too. If you can't find something, come anyway.
Fees
How do you charge?
Wills, deeds and closings are usually a set fee, quoted before we start. Court cases are usually billed by the hour against a deposit. Either way, you get it in writing first.
Can I pay over time?
For many matters, yes. Ask at the first meeting and we'll write the payment schedule into the agreement.
Are court costs part of your fee?
No. Filing fees, recording fees and other costs paid to the court or the county are separate, and we list them for you before they're due.
Your file
Who will do my work?
The lawyer you meet with. Our paralegal helps with drafts and filings, and your lawyer reviews everything before it goes out.
How will I hear from you?
By phone or email, whichever you prefer, whenever something happens on your matter. You get a copy of every paper we file or sign for you.
What if you can't take my case?
We'll tell you at the first call, and give you the name of a lawyer or a legal aid office who may be able to help.
