Family law
Divorce, custody and the papers that follow
Folasade Oduya handles this work. Her aim is a settlement you can live with, and court when there isn't one.
Divorce
Dividing what you share, from the house to the retirement accounts.
Custody and parenting time
A written schedule for school weeks, summers and holidays.
Child support
Setting it, and changing it when a job or a household changes.
Adoption
Step-parent, relative and agency adoptions, through the final hearing.
How it goes
How a family case usually moves
- 01
Step 1: You tell us where things stand
Who has the children now, what's agreed, and what isn't.
- 02
Step 2: We put the agreed parts in writing
Often that's most of it. A judge can approve an agreement without a trial.
- 03
Step 3: We work on the rest
By letter, in mediation, or in court if it comes to that.
- 04
Step 4: We explain the final order
What it requires of you, and what to do if it stops working.
Questions about family cases
Do we both need lawyers?
We can represent only one of you. The other parent may hire a lawyer or not; we'll explain what that means for you.
Can we change custody later?
Yes, when circumstances change. The court looks at what's best for the children now.
Will I have to go to court?
Usually for at least one short hearing. Many cases never need more than that.
Bring us the hard conversation
Call or send a note. Leave out the details for now; we'll ask what we need when we talk.
